TEMA DO DILÚVIO

There is possibly a reclining figure at lower left, reminiscent of the green-clad figure in Composition II, who is either drowned or, to adopt Weiss's interpretation of Composition II, might represent the Zyrian water spirit Vasa. The motif at lower right recalls the rider with outstretched arms found in the drawing for Composition I (pi. 1) and in the watercolor study for Composition II (pi. 9), although here his position is reversed. It could be the World-Watching Man or Yanukh-Torem from Zyrian beliefs.

Cores

that indicate an expanse of violet in the right section; a large looming form in upper right — possibly a cloud — in black; three white sections at the top; different forms, possibly waves, in blue in the center; and a red shape in the lower right corner.

Cores

                                          Três seções brancas no alto.

Canto direito em cima, uma grande forma em                                                                                           negro, uma nuvem
                                                                                         Direita/Violeta

                                            Diferentes formas,
                                           possivelmente ondas,

Two other unlocated studies are related to Compo sition III ; one is Sketch for Improvisation XV (pi. 19), which incorporates almost identical pictorial motifs as
Composition III, yet reverses the overall compositional arrangement. Judging from the existing photographs of Sketch for Improvisation XV and Composition III (pi. 20), the mood conveyed by the picture was indeed that of impending doom or tragedy. Composition III, ex ecuted in 19 10, must be viewed in the context of the pre ceding two Compositions, although stylistically, as far as one can judge from the black-and-white reproductions,
it differs markedly from the first two. It incorporates fewer compositional elements; its forms are broader and rendered in larger expanses of color. In this work, linear definitions of forms create tensions and counterpoint the color structure. Kandinsky is moving in a more in dependent direction, decisively relying less on associat ing pictorial shapes with visible reality. The riders in a landscape become secondary, and the primary expressive force is conveyed through the arrangement of colored forms, creating a mood or an inner soul of the picture.

Texto de matéria
"Composition III" was the most abstract of the early works, with horses and mountains boiled down to swooping arcs and mounds. In the LACMA show, it is represented by original diagrams charting the exact placement of the colors: Kandinsky's careful planning suggests an unexpected, non-humorous precedent for Andy Warhol's series of paintings from 1962, such as "Do It Yourself" and "Dance Diagrams."

In “Composition III,” for example, the forms of humans and animals are still recognizable, milling about, perhaps playing or perhaps fighting, or both, in a sort of pastoral environment.

I, II, III compositions

a- esperar de fato os recursos da pesquisa e, disso concentrar nas leituras e estudos preliminares antes das orquestrações;

Figura 1: a grande linha negra
"A great sweeping black line that unifies Composition V like a resounding Klag strives as the fest obvious syncretic motif, suggesting at once the 'last trump' of the apocalyptic final judgment and the trump of the death angel Israfil calling Iskandar back to live. (99)  seething abundance, fervilhante , efervescência.
2- mistura de pedaços
bits and pieces from his own synthetic iconography together with borrowings from the Persian miniature, a shaman's drum, and motifs of the Kalevala, reducing his pictorial universe to an iconography of skeletal remnants floating freely in an explosive constellation of events shrouded in a nebulous haze. 99-100
3- dois cavalos, esquerda superior
Sweeping into the apparently stormy heavens above the trumpet (upper left), two horses hieroglyphs recall the dual St. Elijah/Perun the Thunderer motif that had already enlivened his many All Saint's Day painting.

3- o barco, esquerda inferior
The Pictographic boat motif , in the lower left-hand quadrant, that might have been better suited to a 'deluge'context, carries a figure in yellow and two others, a motif reminiscent of the figure in fellow standing in a boat previously identified in Composition II as the dyadic Christ/Word-Watching-Man( or Golden Prince) and son of the Ostiak and VOful highest god Numi-Törem, who was sometimes envisioned as voyaging from heaven to earth in a bot accompanied by his tow rowers, a motif later repeated in Composition VI.

4- Figura de braços abertos, esquerda inferior
Below the rowers motif, at lower left, is a ghostly figure with upraised arms(more clearly defined in the study for the painting). Reference to Finno-Ugric water spirit Vasa, traditionally associated with the dangers of traversing seas, lakes, and rivers.

5- a cidade de torres, centro superior.
A turreted structure topping a hill at upper center represents at once the conglomerate architecture of the apocalyptic 'New Jesuralem'and the multicoloured home of Numi-Törem or a Russian kremlin atop the site of a Chudic gorodock.

6- Cavaleiro de braços abertos

7- Velas

"Unlike most of the paintings Kandinsky produced at this period, with their brilliant color scales, this painting is distinguished by its somber brownish earthen hues, displaying much the same umber-and-russet patina of antiquity that characterizes the Munich drum"105.
